Title 'Sway'

Location Pitt Street Mall overpass

'Sway' is an interactive video installation designed for installation in the heart of Sydney’s shopping district, Pitt Street Mall. Its beautiful and poetic imagery of a fluctuating ocean invites viewers to reflect on the current debates surrounding global warming and in particular, the  Australian water crisis.

A projected image of tumbling waves will reflect the shifting movement of the pedestrians below the screen. Hidden sensors will detect when the pedestrian traffic is dense and rapid, projecting an image of turbulent water. Likewise, when the pace of the city has eased the waves mimic the soothing ebb of a tide receding out to sea.

This project is supported by Westfield and the City of Sydney Council.

Technical support has been provided by Rhys Turner.

*This project was due for launch in 2007 but we were unable to realise it in the timeframe. If you or somebody you know might be interested in supporting this exciting project please contact: sarah@terminusprojects.org
